Slack Integration

Connect your Slack workspace to Chatim to receive real-time chat notifications and respond to visitors directly from Slack.

Plan required: Ultimate

Getting Started

1. Connect Your Workspace

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Slack
  2. Click Add to Slack
  3. Authorize Chatim in your Slack workspace
  4. You'll be redirected back to Chatim with a success message

2. Configure Notifications

After connecting, choose which events send notifications and to which Slack channel:

Notification TypeWhat It Does
New ChatPosts a message when a visitor starts a new chat. This creates the Slack thread for that conversation.
New MessagePosts visitor messages, agent replies, and AI responses in the thread.
Bot ActivityShows chatbot messages, multiple choice options, and carousels in the thread so you can follow the full conversation.
Form SubmissionPosts form field names and values when a visitor submits a form.
Page NavigationShows when the visitor navigates to a different page on your site.
Mode ChangeNotifies when the chat transitions between bot, AI, and live agent modes.
Chat ClosedPosts a summary when the chat ends (duration, message count, modes used).

For each type, toggle it on/off and select the Slack channel where it should post.

Tip: Enable at least New Chat and New Message to get the core experience. Add Bot Activity if you want full conversation visibility.

Replying to Visitors from Slack

When a visitor starts a chat, Chatim creates a Slack thread. Any reply you type in that thread is sent directly to the visitor as a live chat message.

  • The first agent to reply automatically transitions the chat to live mode
  • Your Slack display name is shown as the agent name in the widget
  • File attachments from visitors appear as links in the thread

Internal Notes

Type /note followed by your message to leave a note that is not sent to the visitor:

/note Customer seems interested in the enterprise plan

You'll see a confirmation that the note was saved.

Thread Commands

Update visitor information directly from Slack using these commands in a chat thread:

CommandExampleWhat It Does
!visitor name!visitor name John DoeSets the visitor's name
!visitor email!visitor email [email protected]Sets the visitor's email
!visitor phone!visitor phone +1-555-1234Sets the visitor's phone number
!visitor status!visitor status leadChanges the visitor's status

Valid statuses: new, lead, customer, closed, archived

If you enter an invalid status, you'll see an error with the list of valid values.

After running a command, you'll see a confirmation and the thread header updates to show the new info.

Thread Buttons

Each chat thread includes action buttons:

ButtonWhat It Does
Open in ChatimOpens the chat in your Chatim dashboard
Assign to MeClaims the chat and assigns it to your Chatim account (matched by email)
Close ChatCloses the conversation (shows a confirmation dialog first)

What You See in a Thread

A typical Slack thread shows the full conversation flow:

  1. Thread header — Visitor name, email, phone, location, current page, device/browser, referrer, and any custom parameters
  2. Bot messages — What your chatbot said to the visitor (with Bot Activity enabled)
  3. Options & carousels — Choices the chatbot presented
  4. Visitor selections — Which option the visitor picked
  5. Form submissions — Field names and values
  6. Page navigations — When the visitor moves to a different page
  7. Mode transitions — When the chat switches to AI or live mode
  8. Messages — Visitor messages, agent replies, AI responses
  9. Chat summary — Duration, message count, and modes used when the chat closes

Multiple Workspaces

You can connect multiple Slack workspaces to the same project. Each workspace has its own notification configuration. Click Add Another Workspace to connect additional workspaces.

Disconnecting

To remove the Slack integration:

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Slack
  2. Click Disconnect next to the workspace
  3. Confirm the disconnection

This revokes Chatim's access to your Slack workspace and removes all notification settings.

FAQ

Q: Will chat flow break if Slack is down?

No. Slack notifications are sent asynchronously and never block the chat flow. If Slack is unreachable, the chat continues normally.

Q: Can I use private channels?

Yes. Both public and private channels appear in the channel selector. The Chatim bot must be invited to private channels first.

Q: How does "Assign to Me" match my account?

It looks up your Slack email and matches it to your Chatim account email (case-insensitive). If no match is found, the assignment isn't saved but you can still reply in the thread.

Q: Are messages rate-limited?

Yes. Chatim sends at most 1 message per second per channel to stay within Slack's API limits. Page navigation events are also debounced (3-second minimum between updates).
